Insurance Coverage for Weight Loss Surgery

Your insurance may cover weight loss surgery. Insurance does not cover the gastric balloon at this time. Typically, insurance companies have specific requirements to qualify for surgery. Below is a general guide for insurance coverage. Our team is happy to verify your insurance and review your qualifications with you.

  • BMI below 35
    • Self-Pay - Insurance will not pay for your surgery.
  • BMI 35 to 40 with at least one co-morbidity
    • Examples of co-morbidities: coronary artery disease, hypertension, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, gastric reflux, or diabetes. Sleep studies are usually performed also.
  • BMI over 40
    • No co-morbidity necessary.
